Among these are 4 gas-fired power projects with a total capacity of 10,700 MW. Ca Mau province also said that, with a long coastline, many estuaries and surrounding islands, it is favorable to build warehouses, ports, gas pipelines and floating storage systems (FSRU) for gas development.
Currently, the supply for the 2 Ca Mau 1 & 2 power plants can only meet 67% of the total operating capacity, so it is necessary to supplement imported gas sources. The province has also approved a LNG import terminal with a capacity of 1 million tons/year, starting operation in 2022-2025 and increasing to 2 million tons/year after 2025.
In order to promote the potential and advantages of gas power, solve the problem of supply shortage when, the People's Committee of Ca Mau province has proposed to invest in 4 LNG power projects as mentioned above.
Specifically, the Ca Mau 3 gas power project with a capacity of 1,500 MW; Tan Thuan gas power project with a capacity of 3,200 MW; Song Doc gas power project has a capacity of 3,000 MW and LNG gas power project and FSRU system has a scale of 3,000 MW.
With wind power, because it has 3 sides bordering the sea, the average wind speed is 6-7 m/s at an altitude of 80-100 meters, Ca Mau province also proposed 24 additional projects with a total capacity of 12,018 MW. Among these are 6 offshore wind power projects with a total capacity of 8,500 MW and 18 nearshore wind power projects with a total capacity of 3,518 MW.
Also, given that it has the characteristics of a tropical sub-equatorial monsoon climate with high temperature, the number of sunshine hours is more than 2,000 hours/year, the development of solar power is also noticed by Ca Mau province.
The province has now invited investors to invest in a wave reduction embankment project combining solar power, aquaculture and mangrove restoration in the intertidal flats of the west coast of Ca Mau province.
In addition, with over 300,000 hectares of aquaculture land, many domestic and foreign investors have proposed to make solar power combined with aquaculture.
Therefore, this province also proposed to add 9 solar power projects with a capacity of 2,846 MW into the electricity planning.
