With the orientation to turn Thanh Hoa into one of the major centers of the North Central region and the whole country in heavy industry, with the focus on developing the energy industry and processing and manufacturing, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province has proposed proposed to add a series of power projects to the Power Plan VIII.
Notably, it is proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade appraise and submit to the Prime Minister the addition of Nghi Son LNG Power - Gas Center with a capacity of 9,600 MW, Thanh Hoa LNG Power Center with a capacity of 9,600 MW, and a new power generation system project. Using residual heat 20 MW with transformer T3- 20 MVA- 110/6.3 kV 110 kV station of Nghi Son cement and project of utilizing waste heat to generate electricity – Vicem Bim Son with capacity of 14 MW.
For wind power, Thanh Hoa province proposed to add 3 projects with a total capacity of 249 MW in Nghi Son economic zone: Bac Phuong - Nghi Son (150 MW), Hai Lam 949.5 MW) and Thanh Phu (49). ,5 MW).
However, the province also said, with 102 km of coastline and a territorial sea of 17.00 km2, the local offshore wind power potential is up to 50,000 MW. For solar power, Thanh Hoa proposed to add 10 projects with a total capacity of 711.6 MW.
In addition, the province also proposed to add the Ten Tan irrigation-hydroelectricity project with a capacity of 12 MW and 3 garbage power projects such as Nhu Thanh (10 MW), Tho Xuan (12 MW) and Nghi Son (20 MW).
Currently, in Thanh Hoa province, there are 3 thermal power plants including Nghi Son I (600 MW) have been put into operation, Nghi Son II (1,200 MW) has completed 99% of construction, Cong Thanh has completed site clearance. and is mobilizing capital to implement the project.
Regarding hydropower in the area, there are 22 approved hydropower projects with a total capacity of 832.2 MW, of which 11 projects have been put into operation with a capacity of 607.7 MW; 2 investment projects are underway with a total capacity of 115 MW; 2 projects have had investment policies with a total capacity of 14 MW; 7 projects have been in the planning but have not yet been approved for investment policies with a total capacity of 96.5 MW.
There are also 3 solar power projects that have been approved for planning with a total capacity of 235 MW, of which Yen Thai Solar Power Plant 30 MWp has been put into operation, Kien Tho project 45 MWp is being implemented and the project is underway. Thanh Hoa I with a capacity of 60 MWp is preparing for investment.
There are also 3 biomass power projects with a capacity of 47.7 MW that have been put into operation at Lam Son Sugar Factory (33.2 MW), Nong Cong (4.5 MW) and Vietnam - Taiwan (10 MW).
